 Profile

STAS is a dynamic and entrepreneurial company specialising in the development, fabrication and commercialisation of new technologically advanced equipment. Industry sectors include aluminium serving a global market place, with quality specifications that comply with world standards.

Founded in 1989, STAS was first entirely devoted to the aluminium industry, hence its name (Société des Technologies de l’Aluminium du Saguenay Inc.). Since then, STAS has grown at a vigourous pace on account of its competitiveness on the global market, the expertise of its staff and the quality of its products and services.

STAS’ activities are divided into two parts: design and marketing, with its engineers and technicians, and workshops. By subcontracting with manufacturing companies, STAS can provide its clients with a rapid service at competitive prices.

STAS is a recognised leader in its innovative abilities to develop and fabricate sophisticated equipment serving various sectors of the industry, in contributing to pollution reduction and in offering low, competitive prices, using the most recent versions of programmable controllers in control and instrumentation. The equipment offered by STAS includes dross cooling systems, degassing equipment, crucible cleaners, filtering equipment for molten metal, rotary injectors, etc.

STAS holds licences from Alcoa and Alcan. In 1999, Hydro-Quebec invested in the company.

STAS is located in the heart of Quebec, Canada, where about 3,000,000 tonnes of aluminium are produced by the world’s most technologically advanced plants.
