STAS is a dynamic and entrepreneurial company specialising in
the development, fabrication and commercialisation of new technologically
advanced equipment. Industry sectors include aluminium serving a global
market place, with quality specifications that comply with world standards.
Founded in 1989, STAS was first entirely devoted to the
aluminium industry, hence its name (Société des Technologies de l’Aluminium
du Saguenay Inc.). Since then, STAS has grown at a vigourous pace on account
of its competitiveness on the global market, the expertise of its staff and
the quality of its products and services.
STAS’ activities are
divided into two parts: design and marketing, with its engineers and
technicians, and workshops. By subcontracting with manufacturing companies,
STAS can provide its clients with a rapid service at competitive prices.
STAS is a recognised leader in its innovative abilities to
develop and fabricate sophisticated equipment serving various sectors of the
industry, in contributing to pollution reduction and in offering low,
competitive prices, using the most recent versions of programmable
controllers in control and instrumentation. The equipment offered by STAS
includes dross cooling systems, degassing equipment, crucible cleaners,
filtering equipment for molten metal, rotary injectors, etc.
STAS
holds licences from Alcoa and Alcan. In 1999, Hydro-Quebec invested in the
company.
STAS is located in the heart of Quebec, Canada, where about
3,000,000 tonnes of aluminium are produced by the world’s most
technologically advanced plants. Quebec is also renowned for its production
of minerals and wood products. World class Research and Development
facilities located in Quebec provide a continuing flow of new equipment to
be commercialised; they include the Alcan R & D Centre, the Centre québécois
de recherche et de développement de l'aluminium (CQRDA), the Centre de
recherche industrielle du Québec (CRIQ) and the National Research Council
Canada (NRC).
STAS’ particular expertise is in the aluminium industry, with
annual sales worth 15 to $20,000,000 from which 70 to 75% on the export
market, more particularly with primary and secondary smelters.
STAS employs more than 100 persons, from which a technical
team – made up of more than 70 engineers and technicians – with a broad
expertise in processes and design.
STAS owns and occupies two
buildings located in an industrial park of the Saguenay region, Quebec,
Canada.
