Situation
Aluminium alloys need to meet ever more stringent quality requirements, particularly for the elimination of alkalis and alkaline earth metals.
Problem
Chlorine is traditionally used to eliminate these impurities but is a pollutant and a hazard.
Solution
The TAC, designed and commercialised by STAS, successfully reduces Na and Li contents to specification levels in less than 8 minutes without the use of chlorine. TAC achieves these objectives by injecting AlF3 directly into the molten metal in the pot room crucible.
